Overhead Glazing designed, manufactured, and installed a bespoke triangular rooflight for a residential property in Wimbledon, London. The rooflight was custom-made to suit the unique geometry of the roof opening and to maximise natural daylight within the space below.
Due to the size and non-standard triangular shape, the project required careful planning, precise fabrication, and a coordinated installation approach—particularly given the restricted access to the property.
Project Overview
The client required a non-standard triangular rooflight to suit a bespoke roof opening as part of a residential project in Wimbledon. The design needed to:
-
Deliver high thermal performance
-
Comply with UK Building Regulations
-
Maintain a clean, slimline appearance
-
Be installed efficiently with minimal disruption

Heat-soaked tested toughened glass
-
Warm-edge spacer
-
Argon gas filled cavity
-
13.5mm high-performance toughened, heat-soaked laminated inner pane
Frame Design & Construction
While triangular rooflights are typically manufactured using bonded aluminium frames, this project utilised a fully thermally broken aluminium frame to improve overall energy performance.
To achieve a completely airtight and watertight seal between the different angles of the rooflight, the frame sections were externally welded — a specialised process rarely achieved with standard bonded systems.
This method maximises thermal efficiency, enhances long-term durability, and maintains a clean, slimline architectural appearance.
Installation & Access Challenges
Due to the size and triangular geometry of the rooflight, access to the installation area was restricted. This required advance planning and careful routing of the unit to ensure safe handling and precise placement.
Despite these challenges, the rooflight was successfully installed in a single day by our experienced installation team.
Outcome
The completed rooflight significantly increased natural daylight within the property while maintaining clean internal sightlines. The bespoke triangular design creates a striking architectural feature and integrates seamlessly with the existing roof structure.
This project demonstrates Overhead Glazing’s expertise in delivering complex, high performance bespoke rooflights across Wimbledon and the wider London area.
