Rooflight Specification
Technical Details
Wall abutted rooflights can be fixed against three sides of a wall.
The abutment doesn’t need to be continuous, as the design allows us to go around corners or separate wall sections.
Our standard frames are thermally broken, but for complex projects, we use custom aluminium extrusions and install them to prevent cold bridging.
We have a set of standard drawings available for architects and specifiers.
Please contact our technical team at sales@overheadglazing.co.uk to request the specific drawings you need.
Glass Specification for Wall Abutted Rooflight
All our rooflight glass panels are specified with toughened heat soaked outer panes and a laminated inner pane as standard.
The exact glass specification for your wall abutted rooflight will depend on factors such as size, span, and load requirements.
Modular options are available up to 1500mm from the wall to the external kerb as a frameless structural design. For spans over 1500mm, additional support will be integrated into the design.
Glass Options
-
Soft Coat Low-E
This is the minimum standard in all our rooflights, offering enhanced thermal performance and energy efficiency. -
Solar Control Glass
Ideal for areas with high heat exposure, this glass reduces solar glare and minimizes heat build-up inside the space. -
Satin Obscure Glass
Used for privacy glazing. Available with either a fully obscured surface or partial obscuration, depending on your preference. -
Tinted Glass
For those seeking a subtle colour tone, we offer grey or blue tints that can be integrated into our rooflight designs. -
Anti-Slip Acid Etched Glass
Commonly used for walk-on rooflights, this finish provides added safety through a slip-resistant surface.

Frequently asked questions
Do you offer a site survey before installation?
Yes, we provide site surveys for more complex or custom installations to ensure accurate measurements and assess structural conditions. This helps us deliver a perfect fit and smooth installation process.
What information do you need to provide a quote?
To provide an accurate quote, we typically need the approximate dimensions, roof type (flat or pitched), preferred glass specification, and project location. Photos or drawings are helpful too.
What are the lead times for manufacturing and delivery?
Lead times vary depending on the complexity of the rooflight, but standard units typically have a lead time of 3–4 weeks. Custom or oversized units may take slightly longer.
Can you help with planning or structural requirements?
While we don’t manage formal planning applications, our technical team can provide detailed information on glass load, unit weight, and recommended fixing methods. This helps architects, builders, and engineers specify the correct structural support for our rooflights.
